This post is titled May 1st Reboot: Mission Accomplished! by author SoulJah.
After 2 days of designing and CSS positioning, coupled some more days with the compulsory editing, realigning, troubleshooting, debugging, adding, subtracting work done to the site, now I present to you the new StupidLogic:CSS. Sleek, refined, smooth. CSSed.

The idea behind the new redesign was the cssReboot movement, for which I am the only sole participant from Brunei. I've been putting CSS into my work for the past year most evident in SIP Phone Demo site that I was gonna do for JTB, and also at DGComm Solutions. While incorporating Flash as the main navigational items, the rest of the site was done totally in CSS.

A fickle thing CSS, which was supposed to bring web browsers together in a unison of conformity, but alas, the difference between the three major browsers (Opera, IE, Firefox) meant careful coding of the elements. I could've had the site to be validated in HTML Transitional 4.01 and CSS 1.0 but some tags that needed to keep the look consisted across the three sites means the site is not fully valid HTML Transitional 4.01. Example? The margins for IE and Firefox can be controlled directly through CSS, but one of Opera's quirks is that it doesn't acknowledge that, rather having to use topmargin=0 and leftmargin=0.

I've been meaning to do a multi layout site for a while and a great inspiration was CSS Zen Garden that shows off the power of CSS design. While I've put links that can change the layout to the left, the only changes right now is that it changes the top image. With some more time, I'll create a rather funky layout soon, so be on the lookout for that.

Currently those links will store your choice in a cookie so when you come back here, you'd be seeing the one that you clicked the last time you came here. Again, big thanks to CSS Zen Garden for the inspiration.

(A point of interest, Firefox has an option under the View menu that you can select and choose the layout of your choice there.)

Another thing I wanna push right now is the RSS feeds for my site. Now that Opera has finally supported Atom XML, there's no choice for you guys not to subscribe to my news feed! :D

A recent excursion to Mac's Safari mini site, I came across something peculiarly interesing. Apparently it shows an RSS icon on the right hand site of the address bar, which I noticed too in the Opera browser (sorry no Firefox/IE), so if you click on the blue RSS icon, you can select your feed du jour and have content delivered to you as fast as you update your RSS feeds!

Code:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom" href="/stupidlogic.xml" />

This post is titled Nokia NSeries: N91, N90 and N70 by author SoulJah.

Nokia N91
Some major releases from Nokia today, introducing a trio of Nseries phones concentrating on media playback and improved megapixel-age on all of them. First up is the Nokia N91, 2 megapixel camera, with a 4GB storage space, and thankfully including a 3.5mm port in there (you wouldn't believe the trouble I went throught to convert the pop port connector to accept a 3.5mm jack), and by the looks of it, other phone manufacturers are on in the 3.5mm bandwagon too. Plays MP3, M4A (Nokia's AAC format of choice), AAC (not from iTunes probably) and WMA for you low file size loving people. Has USB 2.0 too so no more swapping in and out that MMC or transferring through Bluetooth, not that it doesn't have that feature though. But the killer is this baby will have Wi-Fi! Yay! Engadget Link.

Nokia N90
Up next is the Nokia N90, a 2 megapixel, 6260 replacement of sorts with it's side shootin' action. Looks kinda broken and disjointed, but it's to alleviate the 6260 wrist tilt-up-and-down problem by having the camera compartment swivel up and down. The camera's no slouch either, sporting a Carl Zeiss lense, auto focus and integrated flash. Engadget Link.

Nokia N70
Last but not least is the least inspired of the three, sporting a design similar to the recent 6680 series, with the whole 2 camera set up, FM tuner, yada yada yada. Ho hum. Engadget Link.

Verdict? Not particularly mind blowing. Apart from the Nokia N91 which piqued my interest with the inclusion of a 4GB drive and a proper headphone jack, the design aesthetic's been seen before. I still can't understand thought the push for the whole music thing everyone's been trying to go. Hell I've been doing it with my Nokia 6230 and where was my medal? HUH? Now no one would look at me strange anymore when I walk around with my Altec Lansic headphones, take out my phone and start rocking out. Now everyone's gonna have music phones. Pshaw. But I digress.

Ok it's either the Nokia N91 with the 4GB space + Wi-Fi + 3.5mm port vs Sony Ericsson K600i. Hmm....

I Link, Therefore I am
by George Simpson, Monday, Apr 25, 2005 8:17 AM EST

A WEST NYACK, N.Y. MAN was found dead at his computer apparently the victim of trying to keep up with too many professional forums. Childress H. Wanamaker, 54, an account executive at a New York-based new media company, died of starvation according to the West Nyack coroner's office. Wanamaker's emaciated body was found by Loraine, his wife of 26 years, who told MediaPost she had been bringing her husband meals on plastic trays for weeks, but that he never took the time to eat them.

"He was glued to his computer 24/7," she said tearfully. "He was so afraid he was going to miss an opportunity to contribute a comment or start a discussion, that he just stopped eating." She added that Wanamaker's last words were "OK Picard, stick that in your pipe and smoke it..."

Computer forensic specialists from SUNY at Cortland discovered that Wanamaker was subscribed to 48 different forums and networking communities including one apparently having to do with the elderly called "oldtimers" and another apparently limited to just 100 people. They also found that he posted a comment into one forum or another on an average of two per minute every hour of the day for the past seven weeks.

"He felt under terrible pressure to be part of the online community," said his son, Lucian, who says he tried several times to get his father's attention and lure him away from the computer. "The only time he even looked up was when I told him I had seen Dane Madsen trying to steal his car out of the driveway."

Police found what appeared to be an organization chart taped to the wall of Wanamaker's den with lines linking small photos of people unknown to the police including a Tom Hespos and an Adam Boettiger. Neither is considered a suspect in Wanamaker's death.

"Once, I thought I had him," said Lucian Wanamaker, "when I said that mom had made cookies, but half out of his chair, he just sat back down mumbling something about two Roman gods; I believe it was Jupiter and Atlas having some sort of titanic battle. 'Let them eat PIE,' he bellowed banging on his keyboard."

Computer forensic specialists reported that there was no order or continuity to Wanamaker's forum postings. "It looks like he just sort of randomly commented on whatever was in the discussion string at the time," said Stephen Hall, CUNY-Cortland adjunct professor of intemperate and impulsive behavior. "He let nothing go by unchallenged by his own point of view, nor failed to respond to any other community member asking for advice or a new job. This consumed not only 24 hours a day, but also, apparently, his physical health."

In what must be a record, Wanamaker was linked into to over 15,250 other community members, many of whom he exchanged notes with daily. He also contributed to 375 blogs and was expected to start an online column about the impact of interactive communications on health, when he died.

A virtual memorial service will be held online at a date to be determined.

That is some crazy shit. I thought I had it bad checking b0g.org constantly, but this guy takes the cake. 375 blogs? 'two per minute every hour of the day for the past seven weeks'? Scary stuff.

This post is titled Nice site I found... A year ago... by author SoulJah. Well that one year was because I forgot about the site and just now I was typing up my Software Development Project and I was listing some search engine examples and I was looking all over the net for it. It's called LivePlasma now (it used to be Music Plasma) and now it serves up movie information search results too. It uses these circles to represent the bands popularity and the linkages between them shows the relationship of one band with another. Simple and elegant and straight to the point. It does what it's supposed to do and there's beauty in that. Loving it.

The recently released pictures of the XBoX 360 and, it looks sexy... in an anorexic hot girl kinda way. But to me... nah... couldn't be the final design, this. I mean... it's not well designed, in an industrial design kinda way. I mean, the controller is not on the front facia? What designer thought of that? And I'd have whatever he's smoking.

You guys can believe what you want. I'd stick with my diversionary tactics theory.

This post is titled SEGA Fantasy VI by author SoulJah. Imagine if you will. A world threatened by a evil massive power. A handful of heroes, banding together, to fight the good fight, to save humankind from oblivion.

Sounds like a Final Fantasy game?

You'd be half correct.

Now imagine that evil being was a PSP. Bringing multi-media playing shenanigans into what was once a purely enjoyable hobby? That is to play games?

What you get is an epic flash worthy of being written down in the history books of gaming. This is truly work of pure genius.

Adobe buys Macromedia
Adobe today announced that it would acquire Macromedia for about $US3.4 billion in shares.

The union will put two of the technology world's best known names together under a common leadership.

Adobe is most widely known for its nearly ubiquitous PDF format, but it has a full line of graphics software, including industry standard Photoshop.

Macromedia, best known for its nearly ubiquitous Flash program, is similarly positioned in the web development sector, where its Dreamweaver package is the industry standard.

The product lines of both companies have been heavily pirated and a senior Macromedia executive told NBR two years ago that having a 90 per cent share of the market meant little if only 10 per cent of the products in use were licensed.

Under the terms of the agreement, which has been approved by both boards of directors, Macromedia stockholders will receive, at a fixed exchange ratio, 0.69 shares of Adobe common stock for every share of Macromedia common stock in a tax-free exchange.

Based on Adobe's and Macromedia's closing prices on Friday, April 15, 2005, this represents a price of $US41.86 per share of Macromedia common stock, a 25 per cent premium over Friday's closing price of $US33.45.

Upon the close of the transaction, Macromedia stockholders will own approximately 18 per cent of the combined company on a pro forma basis.

Bruce Chizen, chief executive officer of Adobe, will retain his role as CEO of the combined company.

Stephen Elop, president and chief executive officer of Macromedia, will join Adobe as president of worldwide field operations.

Adobe said separately that it expected earnings and sales in its June 3-ending quarter to come in "toward the high end" of its targeted range.

WHY THE FUCK DID I MISS THIS NEWS!

But in all seriousness, this is gonna bring much more cohesiveness to site designs from now on. Well... that's what I think anyway.

Now bring forth Adobemedia Photoshop MX and Adobemedia Flash CS. I'll await with unbridled anticipation.

Seiko Watch, Seiko Epson Develop Wristwatch Using E-paper

Seiko Watch Corp and Seiko Epson Corp have developed a wristwatch using an electronic paper in its display, and exhibited it at the BASELWORLD 2005 watch and jewelry show held in Switzerland from March 30, 2005.

A 3 x 9 cm electronic paper is curved and embedded along the watch's bracelet-shaped surface. The e-paper displays a constantly-altering mosaic pattern, in addition to the conventional time display. "We aimed to develop a new type of watch that has never existed before," said a company spokesperson. "Then electronic paper caught our eye. Through the utilization of its curvable property, innovative designs have become available. As this is the first watch ever that uses e-paper in the industry, we believe that the industry will be strongly interested in it," he added. The companies are planning to prompt the preparation and launch the product in Japan within FY2005.

Seiko Epson and E Ink Corp of the US jointly developed the e-paper used in this watch. Seiko Epson combined electrophoretic paper that E Ink has been developing, with its driver IC and developed them into a module. This paper-like display contains segmented electrodes for each displayed pattern. It is a monochrome display with a contrast ratio of 10:1.

This post is titled The Land Walker, robot transport Gundam style by author SoulJah. Via EnGadget

We've no idea who Sakakibara Kikai are, apart from having a vague inkling that they may have the odd screw loose here and there, but they've come up with a two-legged, person-carrying robot vehicle that looks like it'd be ready to audition for a live-action Gundam film at the drop of a hat. Admittedly the Land Walker doesn't so much walk as shimmy its 3.4-metre-tall bulk around the place (looks like there are wheels under those feet), and it tops out at a less-than-threatening 1.5 km/h, but it does have the looks, and even a pair of guns (which fire squishy balls, unfortunately). They also have some video of it, well, sliding around.
