Czech Republic football coach Karel Bruckner has been offered free beer for the rest of his life if his team win Euro 2004. The republic's Bernard brewery is offering him 60 litres of beer every year as an incentive to bring the trophy home. The amount is equivalent to Czechs' annual consumption of beer per person, making them the world's champion beer-drinkers. Bernard hopes to spur on the players to achieve equal winning success on the pitch. Each player will receive 160 litres of beer for one year if they win the final. Brewery spokesman Zdenek Mikulasek said: "While they will earn a lot of money if they win we think the offer of free beer on top is extra motivation for the team and will inspire them to go for gold. "They have a chance of winning and we really want them to." Mikulasek says the brewer faxed the offer to the Czech team at their Portuguese hotel, but said they'd received no response to date. |
