This post is titled The Last Samurai Review by author SoulJah. Two words... 'IT ROCKED'... HARD!...

Just imagine for a second, all the stuff that guys think are cool...
  • War movie? Check...

  • Japanese culture? Check...

  • Samurais? Check...

  • Ninjas? Check...
I mean that movie has everything. Self discovery. Struggle, strife and pain. Man, the second half of the movie was a real tear jerker. You can't help but care for the characters and what they are fighting for. I'm not kidding about the tear jerker part. I had to hold someone stifling their tears. It was THAT sad...

The setting (which I assume was in Japan) was so breath taking. Every scene in that movie is done with meticulous detail, everything looks beautiful and fitting to that era in Japanese history. The sakura (or cherry blossom) looks so amazing in the spring scene. The snow falling, nay floating gently down during that winter scene. Everything looked phenomenal. Hell even the rain lent it's help in setting the environment during a crucial sword fighting scene.

The actors are superb. Especially the samurais. The actors fit their characters properly, and you can swear that all of them are experienced sword fighters. Major sword fighting scenes depict the actors FIGHTING each other. With real katanas. Hell it'd take some balls to wield katanas and not injure anyone.

The battle and sword fighting scenes are the best parts of the movie. The sword fighting scenes usually shows the actor fighting themselves and not just body doubles, which lends credence to the whole movie's mammoth undertaking. THe battle scenes will leave you breathless, as samurais clash with the fire arms wielding army, each side having advantage at different distances.

In all a good movie, good storyline, good actors, lovely setting and beautiful cinematography. A movie about honor and loyalty. A movie about friendship and trust. A movie about pain and triumph. 9 katanas out of 10.
